Paul John is an excellent Indian single malt whisky. The distillery of John Distilleries Ltd (JDL) is located in the Goa region on the west coast of India. The tropical climate of Goa massively accelerates the cask maturation of Paul John's whisky. The single malt has to be bottled after just a few years in the cask, otherwise too much evaporates. The proportion of angels is many times higher here than in Scotland or Ireland, for example. However, the faster maturation also releases more flavours into the Indian single malt. How is Paul John whisky made? Paul John's production is based on Scottish quality standards. Paul John single malt is distilled in four copper pot stills. What does Paul John whisky taste like? The Indian whisky is produced with both unpeated malt and smoky malt. There are therefore non-smoky (Paul John Brilliance), delicately smoky (Paul John Edited) and heavily smoky variants such as the Paul John Bold. For beginners, Paul John has created the light, non-smoky Paul John Nirvana. Paul John single malts are characterised by aromas of tropical fruits, caramel and exotic spices. In most cases, Paul John does not chill-filter the whiskies.
