Glendronach
The single malt from Glendronach has blossomed from underdog to one of the most popular Highland whiskies. Glendronach is notorious for its sherry casks in which the whisky matures. Flavours of dark fruit, strong caramel and notes of chocolate and pipe tobacco are often found in Glendronach whiskies. A Highland whisky as it is written in the book. Try the price-performance winner Glendronach 12 year old for starters or treat yourself to more depth with the Glendronach 15 year old. Both matured in casks that previously contained Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry. If you like whiskies from sherry casks, Glendronach is a must! Have fun savouring it.

How Glendronach became GlenDronach
Glendronach is a time-honoured whisky distillery whose single malt is highly regarded around the world. Nevertheless, the distillery has been shut down time and again over the course of its chequered history and was often on the brink of closure. After Glendronach was taken over by the BenRiach Distillery Company under Master Blender Billy Walker in 2008, a new era dawned for the Highland distillery. Under Billy Walker, Glendronach blossomed into one of THE sherry-heavy single malt Scotch whiskies. Interesting new bottlings were created, a renovated visitor centre - and a new spelling: GlenDronach. With a capital "D". Just as the distillery Benriach has been called "BenRiach" since it was taken over by Billy Walker. In 2016, Billy Walker moved on to Glenallachie and sold Glendronach to Brown Forman. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Glendronach and its excellent sherry-driven single malts.
What does Glendronach mean? The literal translation of Glendronach is "Valley of the Dronach" (river name)
Region: Highlands
A little history about Glendronach
Glendronach was founded in 1826 by James Allardice (also: "Allardes") and was largely destroyed by fire just eleven years later. The distillery changed hands frequently in the following decades and was often threatened with closure. In 1920, Glendronach went to Captain Charles Grant, one of the sons of William Grant, the founder of Glenfiddich.
In 1960, William Teacher & Sons took over the distillery, which was temporarily shut down in 1996 on the instructions of the parent company Allied Domecq. Production resumed in 2002, albeit not at full capacity.
In 2005, Glendronach was sold to Pernod Ricard, closed for renovation and reopened in September of that year.
Three years later, Benriach Distillery Co. Ltd. took over Glendronach as the second distillery after Benriach. Since then, Glendronach/GlenDronach has been in continuous production again. In 2016, Billy Walker announced the sale of Benriach Distillery Co. Ltd. and all of its whisky distilleries Glendronach, Glenglassaugh and Benriach to the American group Brown Forman (Jack Daniel's). Shortly afterwards, he used the proceeds to buy the Glenallachie Distillery and began his new project there.
What does Glendronach whisky taste like?
Imagine snacking on dark chocolate on the couch in front of the fireplace, snuggled up in a thick, warm woollen blanket. That's Glendronach. Sumptuous, soft, warming, with a clear, dark sherry flavour. A classic Highland whisky that you can't afford to miss!
3 reasons to love Glendronach
1) Because you simply can't not love the warm, luscious malt.
2) Because the spelling doesn't matter when it comes to enjoyment.
3) Because sparkling, dark amber looks so beautiful.
The one dram of Glendronach for the desert island
If there is anyone who doesn't like the Glendronach 15 year old from the Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, then we haven't met them yet.
