Black Bottle is a delicious blended Scotch whisky with a slightly smoky character. The history and style of the blend is closely linked to the Islay distillery Bunnahabhain, whose single malt is an important component of Black Bottle. Originally, Black Bottle was a very smoky blend with predominantly malts from the north-east Highlands in Scotland. The Aberdeenshire region was the birthplace of Black Bottle in 1879. The style changed as the brand changed hands under Schenley Industries, Allied Distillers and Highland Distilleries. Until 2013, Black Bottle consisted mainly of Islay single malts, which gave it a strong smoky character. The current owner is Burn Stewart Distillers, which also owns the excellent distilleries Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory. In 2013, Burn Stewart decided to return Black Bottle to its roots and use more whisky from the north-east region of Scotland, i.e. Speyside and the Highlands. As a result, Black Bottle is now a delicious fruity scotch with delicate smoky notes
