The beautiful Annandale Distillery is the modern successor to the distillery of the same name, which closed in 1918. You can still see the remains of the pot still installation in an excavation on the distillery site. Annandale is located in Dumfries and Galloway Council and is therefore one of the most southerly whisky distilleries in Scotland. Annandale is an unusual Lowland distillery because it produces both non-smoky and heavily smoky single malts. The Annandale smokeless whisky is called "Man O' Words" and is named after the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. The smoky Scotch Whisky from Annandale bears the heroic name "Man O'Sword". It is dedicated to "Robert the Bruce", the former King of Scotland, who led the Scottish uprisings during the Scottish Wars of Independence against England. Annandale relies on natural whisky and does not use any added colouring or chill-filtration in the production of its Lowland Whisky.
