German Whisky
Sometimes good things are so close. Whisky from Germany is doing well. Until recently, German whisky lived a shadowy existence, but today whiskies such as Elsburn, St. Kilian and Slyrs have earned a good reputation beyond the country's borders. How is German whisky made? Germany is steeped in the tradition of schnapps distilleries, with grain being distilled in the north and fruit schnapps in the south. Many distilleries in Germany produce whisky on the side, so to speak, which has led to a confusing number of small local individual brands. The great variety is both a curse and a blessing. Not every whisky will probably suit your taste, but it's always exciting. Sometimes you can find real regional whisky gems. What does German whisky taste like? Due to the enormous variety of distilleries, it is impossible to ascribe a uniform style to German whisky. From the sweet and fruity Slyrs to the sherry-driven Elsburn and the heavily smoky peat from the village, there is a full range for every taste. What is the best German whisky Of course, the one that tastes best to you. But here are a few recommendations of German whiskies that have stood the test of time. St. Kilian: A Franconian single malt and the first distillery in Germany to produce only whisky. It has everything from fruity to smoky. A recommendation for single malt Scotch lovers. Elsburn: Once called Glen Els, a great dark fruity, partly smoky whisky matured in sherry, port and other sweet wine casks is produced in the Harz Mountains. Slyrs: The Bavarian single malt with honey-sweet aromas and an impressive visitor centre. Stork Club: A German rye whiskey from the Spreedwald that can step into the ring with its US counterparts. Thousand Moutains Mc Raven: A sweet, fruity, smooth single malt is produced in the Sauerland distillery. Elch Whisky: The peat from the village is an intensely smoky single malt smoked over German peat. Finch: The Swabian Highland single malt, round, sweet and fruity. Rothaus: The Black Forest single malt from Kammer Kirsch is also a recommendation for friends of non-smoky, fruity whisky.
