West Cork or 3 friends and a boozy idea...
Once upon a time, three friends - two Irish fishermen and an Irish food engineer - felt that they needed to take their lives in a different direction. They wanted to start something new in their region of Cork in the south-west of Ireland. Something that would fulfil them. They went to a pub, as one does in Ireland. There they drank, talked, thought - and decided to open their own whiskey distillery. That same year, they put the idea into practice and were successful right from the start. The three friends received a lot of praise for their Irish whiskey, liqueur, gin & vodka and moved the distillery after just a few years so that they had even more space. And so they distilled happily and contentedly to this day.
Sounds like a fairy tale?
What do West Cork Distillers produce?
Both blended Irish whiskey and single malt whiskey are offered under the West Cork label. There is also the Drombeg whiskey liqueur, the Lough Hyne "Spirit Liqueur" and the Kennedy, a type of liqueur for which various whiskeys are "soaked" in a malt mash in a special process and enriched with different flavours. Under the name "Two Trees", a gin, a vodka (or more precisely: vodka) and a Poitín, a strong, clear spirit reminiscent of the tradition of moonshine distilleries, are also on offer. The Garnish Island Gin also comes from West Cork. West Cork also produces The Pogues Official Irish Whiskey, the official whiskey of the famous Irish folk band The Pogues. Other whiskey brands from West Cork are Skibbereen Eagle Blended Irish Whiskey, Skibbereen Eagle Single Grain Whiskey and Skibbereen Eagle Single Malt Whiskey. The Prizefight Irish Whiskey also comes from West Cork.
3 reasons to love West Cork
1) Because dreams can come true after all.
2) Because nothing beats good friends.
3) Because West Cork Distillers are full of good ideas.

Our West Cork recommendation
The West Cork 10 year old and West Cork 16 year old are great, light and fruity Irish single malts with top value for money.
A little history on West Cork
The West Cork Distillers were founded in 2003 by Denis McCarthy, Ger McCarthy and John O'Connell. The associated distillery was built in Union Hall, County Cork, and began production in 2004. The first spirit to come out of the stills was marketed as "Kennedy Irish Whiskey". In addition to blended and malt whiskey, the distillery also produces liqueur, gin and vodka. In 2013, the distillery moved to Skibbereen because the old premises had become too small.
The West Cork Distillery is one of only two Irish distilleries that is not part of a large international group (the other is the Dingle Distillery, which was only founded in 2012).
