Starward is a single malt whisky from Australia, which has its home in the gourmet metropolis of Melbourne. Melbourne has a worldwide reputation as a culinary capital of culture, so it's no wonder that one of the most exciting Australian whiskies currently comes from here. Starward was founded in 2008 by David Vitale and has been supported by Diageo in the Distilled Ventures programme since 2015. The expansion of the distillery benefits us today, because otherwise this delicious Australian would certainly not have made it to Germany. Starward was the most awarded distillery at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2022 with a proud 13 double gold medals. How Starward Whisky is made As the name suggests, the New World Whisky distillery wants to break new ground. Starward is experimenting a lot, especially in terms of barrel ageing, in order to develop new flavour profiles for whisky. Starward pays particular attention to food pairings. The majority of Starward's maturation takes place in Australian red wine casks and Apera casks, an Australian variant of sherry. What does Starward taste like? Due to the variety of cask choices, the flavour of Starward naturally depends on the particular bottling. In general, Starward whisky is non-smoky, fruity, sweet and has light spicy notes. The core range includes the blended whisky Starward Two Fold, a light whisky with flavours of red berries, creamy vanilla and white almonds. A real recommendation and classic representative of the brand is the Starward Leftfield, a fruity whisky from red wine casks with flavours of red apples, grapes, roasted notes and great value for money. An equally outstanding single malt is the Starward Nova, similar to Left-Field but slightly more intense. The Starward Fortis is the strongest standard bottling at 50% vol. In the Starward Whisky Projects, Starward experiments with exotic cask finishes such as ginger beer, tawny port wine, Octave casks and smoky Islay whisky casks.
