In Scotland, single malt is distilled on large copper stills, the pot stills. Many distilleries around the world emulate the Scots with this distillation method. This is because the spirit from the pot stills is said to have a special quality. What does single malt taste like? The aromatic variety of single malt is huge. From sweet honey and scented flower meadows, to maritime aromas of seaweed, campfire smoke and smoked bacon, it's all there. With Single Malt Scotch you are sure to find the greatest variety. Single malts from the island of Islay, such as Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Ardbeg are particularly famous for their strong smoky flavours and peaty notes. Single malts usually mature in ex-bourbon casks, where they pick up subtle notes of vanilla and caramel. However, sherry and wine casks are also used here.
