The Distillers Edition is a special series of Single Malt Scotch whiskies from Diageo. The Distillers Edition bottlings are based on the seven elementary single malt distilleries of the Classic Malts Collection, which represent the major whisky regions of Scotland. The fruity, soft Glenkinichie represents the Lowlands. The heavily smoky Lagavulin & Caol Ila whiskies proudly represent the famous whisky island of Islay. The spicy, smoky Talisker from the Isle of Skye is a prime example of the islands of Scotland. The honey-sweet Dalwhinnie & the delicately spicy Oban cover the Scottish Highlands and the fruity-aromatic Cragganmore represents the legendary Speyside region. There is an annual Distillers Edition from each of these exemplary whisky distilleries. This is characterised by the fact that each distillery has been matured in a special sherry or strong wine cask. This gives the distilleries' standards an extra dose of dark fruity flavours and aromatic depth. The Cragganmore Distillers Edition is matured in marmalade-sweet port wine casks. The Glenkinchie Distillers Edition is finished in an Amontillado sherry cask, which is known for its dry, nutty notes. The maritime Talisker is given a wonderful sweet and berry counterpoint in the Distillers Edition with an Amoroso sherry maturation, turning it into a firework of flavours. The Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition is matured in Oloroso sherry casks and takes on flavours of dried fruit and nuts. Casks that previously contained the dry, fruity Montilla Fino sherry give the Oban Distillers Edition its character. The smoky Caol Ila Distillers Edition also becomes a wonderful new creation thanks to sweet Moscatel casks. Just like its noble Islay sibling, which is brought to perfection in the Lagavulin Distillers Edition with berry-sweet Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
