A.D. Rattray Ltd.
Free entry to the wonderful whiskey world.
The company AD Rattray is a whiskey trader and independent bottler with an impressively long tradition. As early as 1868, Andrew Dewar Rattray became self-employed in Glasgow as a grocer for food, wine, tea, and spirits. The company soon became the representative of many Highland distilleries, bottling malt whiskeys on their behalf or selling their barrels to the Blending Houses in and around Glasgow.
Almost 150 years later, the fourth generation of the company is in the hands of the founding family - and today offers more than "just" the whiskey itself: In the "Whiskey Experience" founded in 2011 at the headquarters in Kirkoswald, you can learn and experience how whiskey is made becomes. In the "Cask Room", the "Sample Room" and the "Tasting Room" you will learn everything about the production, evaluation and bottling of Scotch Single Malt Whiskey. And best of all: the entrance is free. Visit highly recommended.
Which whiskey do they make?
From AD Rattray come several single malts and a blended whiskey. The blend, bottled at 5 years and 43%, is marketed under the name Bank Note and has a comparatively high Malt content of more than 40%.
The single malts from Rattray are for the most part offered in the Cask Collection series. Here you can rely on the pure substance: Interesting single cask bottlings in Cask Strength, without cooling filtration.
In addition, Rattray offers under the name Cask Islay an Islay single malt of unnamed origin and brings out with the Stronachie a special malt whiskey, which is to remember the long-gone distillery of the same name.
speciality of the House
A special feature in the portfolio of AD Rattray is the single malt called Stronachie. Stronachie was originally a distillery in the Southern Highlands, founded in 1890, but closed again in 1928 and later demolished.
The company AD Rattray was traditionally closely linked to the distillery as a trading partner. In the early 2000s, it was therefore decided to keep the memory and to revive the name Stronachie. For this purpose, one of only four existing original bottles worldwide was purchased at an auction, a bottling of 1904. This bottle was taken from a sample and then went in search of a malt whiskey that comes as close as possible to the Stronachie character. After long searches and comparisons, one finally found something at the Benrinnes Distillery.
Today AD Rattray fills under the name Stronachie a 10 and an 18 year old Benrinnes Malt, which pays tribute to the old style of this "Lost Distillery".

Welchen Whisky machen die da?
Von A.D.
Die Firma A.D.
Heute füllt A.D.
