About The Kraken
The name Kraken, or formerly Kraken Rum, stands for a selection of great rums that are filled in bottles with characteristic handles. The delicious flavoured spiced rums come from the Caribbean. They are produced in Trinidad and Tobago. The producers use natural ingredients to make the rum. In addition to eleven different spices, molasses is used as a basic ingredient. It is obtained from sugar cane, which comes from the Caribbean island state of Trinidad. Yeast cultures set the fermentation process in motion. Fermentation converts the sugar into alcohol. After distillation, the rum is allowed to mature for one to two years in its oak barrel. The aim of such processes is to bring blends with unadulterated flavours to the market. The brand is particularly popular with young customers, which is why the spiced rums from The Kraken are a household name in the nightlife scene.
What does The Kraken taste like?
When tasting, you can expect complex flavours with spicy, sweet and mild components. They are based on the eleven spices, which include cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Each component imparts its flavour characteristics to the product. The result is a particularly multi-faceted spirit. The distillate has a distinct flavour of its own. It was able to develop during maturation under gentle conditions. The influence of the oak wood is also noticeable. Kraken rum is very suitable for mixing. With its distinctive flavour profiles, Kraken 94 rounds off cocktails such as Bloody Mary or Rum Punch. The Spiced Rum can be enjoyed on the rocks without any additives. The Kraken also cuts a great figure as a classic rum and cola.
The Kraken range
The young company can look back on a history of around a decade. This relatively short period of time was enough to make the brand a symbol of modern spiced rums.
Kraken Rum was founded in 2010 and is part of the American Proximo Spirits group. It is named after the mysterious octopus, which is said to live in the Caribbean Sea. Despite its production location in Trinidad and Tobago, the brand quickly became successful beyond the country's borders. One year after the company was founded, the owners launched their products on the European spirits market. The strong flavour of the rums aroused the interest of a broad customer base: die-hard experts became just as aware of the intensely flavoured drops as newcomers taking their first steps in the world of rum.
The high quality of the spirits did not go unnoticed in the circles of discerning jurors: in 2011, Kraken Rum was awarded 92 points in 'Wine Enthusiast' magazine. Their attention to flavour and aesthetic detail will help the producers to build on their international success in the future.
Each bottle contains a blend full of character that brings the Caribbean lifestyle to your home. The manufacturer produces four variants with unique flavours. The best way to discover your absolute favourite is to let all the varieties melt on your tongue one after the other during a tasting.
The Kraken Black Spiced 94 is the flagship product from the in-house range. The number 94 refers to its alcohol content of 94 proof (47% by volume). This rum-based spiced spirit is characterised by spicy notes. They are reminiscent of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish is long-lasting and is accompanied by a light spiciness.
Kraken Dark Label impresses with sweet, peppery accents. The vanilla and caramel profiles are restrained. Instead, cloves, ginger and peppercorns assert themselves. All three facets persist until the finale. They then slowly fade away, leaving a distinctive sensation on the tongue.
The Kraken Black Roast creation has coffee flavours that give it its name. They meet the flavour of spices. This creates a harmonious balance. The finish is rich, rounded and smooth.
The Kraken Black Spiced is the little brother of the Kraken Black Spiced 94 and is bottled at a mild 40% vol. This product is aimed at beginners and for relaxed enjoyment. Its flavour includes characteristics of cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, spices and coffee.
For outdoors and on the go, there are three 'canned cocktails' from the Krak Open Summer Edition: Kraken & Cola combines the typical taste of rum with the sweetness of cola. Ginger beer was used for Kraken & Ginger Beer. The Rum Punch variety is a flavoured rum with an assertive spiciness.
The bottle design has been modified for the limited editions. They are marketed under the names 'Ink Bottle' or 'White Bottle'. The miniature bottles have a capacity of 0.05 litres. These variants are suitable for tasting, getting to know new flavours or adding decorative bottles to your own collection.
