About Captain Morgan
Almost 1,500 different types of rum are produced by varying blending ratios of mash and flavouring additives and spices. These rums are mainly produced in the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and Mauritius, but also in Spain, India and Guyana. Captain Morgan is produced in Jamaica. The rum, which was named after the Welsh privateer Henry Morgan, is sold worldwide. The USA, Germany, South Africa, Great Britain and Canada in particular are among the most important sales countries. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold is a rum made from sugar cane molasses. After distillation, it is aged for up to a year in burnt oak barrels and infused with Caribbean flavours and spices. The base is white rum. Captain Morgan is therefore predominantly marketed as a rum-based spirit. Most of the bottlings contain less than 37.5 % vol. They are therefore not pure rum. The products are therefore marketed as rum-based spirits or spirit drinks. Only Captain Morgan Black and Private Stock have 40 % vol. and are Jamaican rum varieties. The bottle labels feature the characteristic Jamaican pirate.

The history of Captain Morgan
The history of Captain Morgan begins in the Caribbean. It goes back to the 17th century. The privateer Sir Henry Morgan was originally an admiral in the Royal Navy. Due to his unauthorised raids, he was arrested and soon afterwards pardoned. He was even raised to the peerage. As Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, he came into possession of a sugar cane plantation. Henry Morgan was one of the first rum producers to refine rum with additives. The high-proof distillates made from sugar cane were enriched with fine spices and herbs. This gave the products a flavour full of character. Innovative and inventive, Henry Morgan was able to popularise his rum products. It was not until 1944 that Captain Morgan rum was produced for the world market. This initially took place under the Canadian Seagram Company. The trade mark rights were later transferred to the British company Diageo. This spirits giant managed to turn the brand into a trendy, trendy drink and establish it on the market.
