Experience the unique character of Botucal (also known as Ron Diplomatico outside of Germany) rum from Venezuela. Ron Botucal was created by Don Juancho Melendez, a passionate perfectionist who was inspired by traditional rum-making techniques in Jamaica and the Antilles, and is produced in small batches at the Hacienda Botucal distillery. The brand is now managed by Destilerias Unidas S.A. (DUSA) and has won the recognition of major companies in the industry such as Diageo and Pernod Ricard. Ron Botucal is available in three versions: the award-winning Botucal Reserva Exclusiva, which is aged for up to 12 years and contains a high proportion of heavy pot-still rum, the Botucal Mantuano, which was developed for cocktails and mixed drinks and is matured for 6 years; and Planas, a pure premium rum with fruit, caramel and vanilla flavours, which is matured for 4 years and was developed for the cocktail world. All Botucal rums are recognised for their high quality and unique character.

About Botucal

The rum is made from molasses and matured in oak barrels for up to 12 years. The brand offers a variety of flavours, including a white rum, a dark rum and an extra matured rum.
Three reasons why I love Botucal Rum
Smoothness: Botucal rums are known for their smoothness and lack of spiciness, making them easy to drink and mix into cocktails.
Complex flavour profile: The rum is aged in oak barrels for up to 12 years, which contributes to its complex flavour profile with notes of caramel, vanilla and spices.
Awards and recognition: Botucal Rum has won several awards at international spirits competitions, which speaks to its quality and craftsmanship.
What does Botucal Rum taste like?
Botucal Rum is known for its complex flavour profile with notes of caramel, vanilla and spices. Maturation in oak barrels gives the rum these flavours and ensures a smooth and balanced taste. The white rum is less intense than the dark rum and has a lighter, crisp and clean flavour. The dark rum has a richer, fuller flavour with notes of chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. The extra matured rum has a more intense flavour and aroma with a long-lasting taste. The brand offers a variety of rums, each with its own flavour characteristics. This makes it a versatile rum that can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails.

Botucal Emperador: This rum is aged for up to 15 years in oak barrels. It has a deep and intense flavour and aroma with a long-lasting taste. This rum should be drunk neat to fully enjoy its complexity and smoothness.
How is Botucal rum made?
Botucal rum is made in Venezuela from molasses, a by-product of sugar production. The process for producing Botucal rum usually begins with the extraction of sugar from sugar cane. Once the sugar has been extracted, the remaining molasses is collected and fermented with specially selected yeasts. The fermented molasses is then distilled in copper stills to create the rum base.
After distillation, the rum is stored in oak barrels for varying lengths of time, depending on its flavour. Botucal rums are stored in oak barrels for up to 12 years. Ageing gives the rum flavour and colour and also helps to soften the sharpness of the distillation process.
Once the rum has reached its desired age, it is blended to create the final product. Blending involves combining rums of different ages and from different barrels in order to achieve a uniform flavour profile for the brand. The blended rum is then bottled and brought to market, where it can be enjoyed by rum lovers around the world.
