News from Wemyss Distillery

From Wemyss we can present new single cask bottlings with a nice selection of different regions and styles.

A 22-year-old Benrinnes “Sultana Barley Bread” made from a bourbon barrel surprises with an unusually dark color and really heavy notes of wild honey, pear compote and vanilla fudge. In the finish it has the small heather note typical of Benrinnes.

The Glen Keith "Turmeric Caramel Latte" also comes from the Speyside, but it matured in Sherry Butt for 23 years and was bottled in cask strength (like the Benrinnes). It shows pronounced orange notes as well as a lot of toffee, caramel, roasted aromas and a nice creaminess, like a chai latte.

The Lowlands region is represented by a jewel from Bladnoch Distillerie - a 29 year old bourbon barrel. The Bladnoch "Bourbon Barrel Bonanza!" Lives up to its name, because there is an explosion of taste on the palate: baked apple, fruit compote with spices such as clove, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, plus coconut and a small tobacco note on the finish.

In 1995 the Clynelish "Summer Fruits Sundae" was distilled and its 24 years of maturation now present us with the large class of older Clynelish bottlings. Seductive aromas of exotic fruits such as apricots, mango and papaya are in the foreground, perfectly balanced with an oily almond aroma and the Clynelish-typical waxy malt note.

In contrast, the second Highlander, a Croftengea - it comes out smoky and not without reason was called "Crofter’s Bonfire". After 12 years in the Bourbon Hogshead, he appears earthy green with aromas of hay, leather and campfire, but also a nice sweetness of marshmellow and marzipan.

A single grain is still missing. Wemyss have shown here several times that grain is not just grain. And the 30-year-old Invergordon “Candied Chestnuts” from the Sherry Butt impressively confirms this. It was also bottled in cask strength, which makes its notes of dates, figs and roasted nuts with caramel sauce look even more lush. A real sherry bomb!
