There is again interesting news from Compass Box.
In this case it is a question of combining smoky whiskeys with French oak. Sounds like a promising combination.
The announced Compass Box Ascana is said to consist of whiskeys from the Talisker, Miltonduff, Ardbeg and Highland Park distilleries. These are then combined with the familiar Peat Monster from Compass Box.
The Compass Box experiment is now to find out how smoky whiskeys go with French oak.
How exactly did this experiment work:
You take a peat monster in barrel strength.
Let it mature a little in a French oak barrel and then combine it with whiskeys from the Talisker, Miltonduff, Ardbeg and Highland Park distilleries.
The result is a new Peat Monster Arcana with 46% vol.
