Grandma and Grandpa would be proud.

Founded in 1996, Murray McDavid is among the younger of the independent bottlers. Nevertheless, one looks back on a long whiskey history and high competence. For example, co-founder Gordon Wright was previously the chairman of Springbank Distillery, and his family includes Springbank and Cadenhead, two of the oldest and most respected names in the whiskey world.
The new company was named after the grandparents of co-founder Mark Reynier: Harriet Murray and Jock McDavid. And they would be proud of their grandson. MMD quickly gained an excellent reputation with its excellent bottlings of well-selected barrels. In December 2000, the founders of MMD then made another dream: they bought the disused distillery Bruichladdich and led them to new splendor. Whiskey legend Jim McEwan was won as Master Distiller, a bottling plant was built and even a Whiskey Academy was set up. Bruichladdich became an MMD attraction for whiskey enthusiasts from around the world and one of the key employers on the Isle of Isle.
After 12 successful years, Bruichladdich was sold to Remy Cointreau. Murray McDavid itself was taken over in 2013 by the British company Aceo Limited.
The final word was given to its director Edward Odim: "Our intention is to continue the legacy of Murray McDavid by staying true to its founders' vision and principles as well as carefully selected single malts without chill-filtering or adding color ...".

Which whiskey do they make?

Under the label Murray McDavid are offered (in addition to various rum bottlings!) Numerous single malt whiskeys of various distilleries. In addition to the big names, there are also interesting bottlings of lesser-known distilleries such as Glendullan, Allt-á-Bhainne or Royal Brackla. The MMD bottled single malt whiskeys are basically not cold-filtered and not colored. Pure stuff for purists, then. Some particularly old or rare malt whiskeys are issued in the Mission or Mission Gold series.

The special filling of a 1987 Laphroaig enjoys cult status. Murray McDavid had been banned by the then owner of the distillery to bring the purchased barrels under the name Laphroaig on the market. The gentlemen of MMD not amused about it, but proved humor. On the bottle label they told the story of the dispute, described the distillery in detail, named the owner Allied by name - and sold the whiskey as "leapfrog". This "Hüpffrosch" (or actually "leapfrog", as the meaningful translation would be) is now a sought collector's item.
