Longmorn

Translation: Square of the holy man

Region: Speyside

The Stunned Star or: The Ways of Glory are unfathomable.

The central question when thinking about Longmorn is: Why is the distillery not world famous? In fact, it is difficult to understand why this malt is still more of an insider tip. Because: The Longmorn is a multi-layered, elegant Speyside malt, as it is in the book. He enjoys the utmost respect for the master blenders of the whiskey industry. It is often hymn-praised by whiskey authors (Jim Murray is one of the ten best whiskeys in the world in the "The Complete Guide to Whiskey" paperback). And Longmorn was never shut down as one of the very few distilleries, but produced consistently. And that at least since 1894. Maybe the distillery would just have to market a bit more intensively. Although ... no, actually it's fine the way it is ...

A little history

The distillery was founded in 1894 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomas. On the site was a chapel built in the seventh century in honor of the missionary Maermanog (or later: St. Marnoch),
which was decisive for the name of the distillery. For Lhanmorg or Lannmarnoch, as Longmorn was called in Gaelic, means something like "The Church of St. Marnoch".
In 1897 John Duff paid out his two companions and became the sole owner of the distillery, and a year later he set up a second distillery right next to Longmorn: Benriach,
In 1970 Longmorn became part of the new "The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd" through merger, which also includes Glen Grant and Glenlivet.
In 1972, the number of stills increased from four to six, 1974 to eight.
In 1978, Longmorn, along with Glen Grant and Glenlivet, was taken over by the Chivas & Glenlivet Group (Seagram), which in 2001 was bought by Pernod Ricard.

What do I actually have in the glass?

Longmorn is what one may call a typical Speyside malt: a full, soft, elegant whiskey with a wealth of flavors and aromas. Ideal for entry into the world of Highland malts.

3 reasons to love Longmorn

4) Because also and especially in secret beautiful flowers are blooming.
5) Because, according to legend, the waters of the Longmorn Spring will never dry up.
6) Because the distillery lives up to the sacred soil on which it stands.

The one drama for the lonely island
