Ian MacLeod

All that and much more ...

The name Ian Macleod may be unknown to many. However, the probability of having already drunk a whiskey from this house is very high. Founded in 1933 by whiskey trader Leonard J. Russell and still owned by the family, Ian Macleod Distillers is one of the most important and versatile companies in the whiskey industry. Whether malt whiskeys from their own distillery (one owns the time-honored highland distilleries Tamdhu and Glengoyne), independent bottlings other single malts, vatted malts or various Blended Scotch whiskeys: All this is from Ian Macleod. And with rum, vodka, gin and wine even more. In addition, since 1984, co-owner of the bottling company Broxburn Bottlers, where many of the big ones bring their whiskeys in the bottle. Because most distilleries do not have their own bottling plant. Hardly a bottle of whiskey that would not have gone through the hands of Ian Macleod somehow.

Which whiskey do they make?

As stated above, Ian Macleod is perhaps the largest independent portfolio provider. Even if we focus only on the whiskey here, the offer is huge. First, there are the two distilleries Tamdhu and Glengoyne with their single malts of different ages. More single malt whiskeys from various distilleries can be found under the label As we get it, Chieftain's, Dun Beaghan and Mcleod's. A particularly smoky Islay single malt is sold under the brand name "Smokehead". "The Six Isles" is a highly interesting vatted (or blended) malt that combines malt whiskeys from the islands of Islay, Jura, Skye, Mull, Orkney and Arran. And then there are the blended scotch whiskeys: King Robert, Isle of Skye, Langs, Dunfife, Glenshire, Hedges & Butler, Marshal and Queen's Seal.
Have fun trying it out ...

speciality of the House

We would like to highlight the single malts of Glengoyne. The distillery Ian Macleod acquired in 2003 is remarkable and endearing in many ways. In the distillery, founded in 1833, a true jewel in the southern Highlands, you take an unusually long time while burning. The distillation process is one of the slowest in the whole whiskey world. Traditionally, one refrains from any addition of peat and lets the whiskey mature only in former sherry casks (which are significantly more expensive than the more widespread ex-Bourbon barrels). The spirit produced in this way is an excellent example of a particularly elegant, soft single malt - and would actually have to be much, much more famous.
