Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd.
It stays in the family.
The name Hunter Laing may still sound unfamiliar to some. Because "Laing" combines the Malt Whiskey connoisseur rather with the traditional independent bottler Douglas Laing. Which is also in the right direction. Behind the company Hunter Laing is Stewart Laing. And he and his brother Fred have run the family business "Douglas Laing" for 40 years. But in 2013, Stewart decided to start something new again. He got out of Douglas Laing and founded the company Hunter Laing with his sons Andrew and Scott.
Fortunately, the separation was very harmonious. Fred and Steward fraternally shared what they have been doing at Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd. over the decades. had built together. Around half of the barrel inventories and the established brands went to Steward and his new company. Nice if family holds together.
Which whiskey do they make?
Hunter Laing focuses on single cask malts. Since the separation of the two Laing brothers in 2013, the famous "Old Malt Cask" series belongs to Hunter Laing. Here are outstanding single cask bottlings of various distilleries, filled in the "Preferred Strength" of 50%. In the "Old & Rare" series especially old and rare single cask bottlings in Cask Strength are offered. Finally, under the label "Douglas of Drumlanrig", there are several single cask malt whiskeys between 10 and 20 years old, bottled usually with a drinking strength of 46%.
speciality of the House
Hunter Laing owns about half of the remarkable old keg stocks that the family business Douglas Laing has built since 1948. Some very special treasures come in the series "Old & Rare" on the market. Rare single cask bottlings of high age and in undiluted cask strength, no dye, no cooling filtration. But a stylish wooden box including tasting notes. Something for special occasions.
