Glenturret

Mice, people and records.
The idyllically located on the River Turret Glenturret Distillery holds two records. On the one hand, one claims to be the oldest still producing distillery in Scotland. And with 1775 as the official year of birth, that could easily happen.
For the other record of Glenturret provided the legendary Destilleriekatze "Towser": When she died in 1987 at the biblical age of 24 years, she had brought 28,899 mice to the track. A performance that earned the cat an entry in the Guinness Book of Records and a memorial to the distillery. The only question is, which poor person has counted all the mice over the years.
A little history
Today's Glenturret distillery was founded as Hosh Distillery probably 1775th This date can also be found on the labels of distillery bottlings. As early as 1717, however, whiskey was illegally distilled here. In 1875, the Hosh Distillery took over the name "Glenturret", which had been worn by a former neighbor's distillery from about 1826 to 1852. When many distilleries had to close in the economically difficult first half of the 19th century, Glenturret remained as the only distillery on the River Turret. In 1870, the then owner Thomas Stewart continued to expand the distillery. From 1929 to 1959 Glenturret was shut down. James Fairlie bought the distillery in 1957 and started producing malt whiskey again in 1960. In 1981, Remy Cointreau became investor and had a Visitor Center built. In 1990, the distillery was acquired by Highland Distillers, which in 1999 were taken over by the Edrington Group.
The Visitor Center, which opened in Glenturret in 1981, is one of the first in Scotland. However, today's emphasis is on the Famous Grouse Blends of the parent company. That's why the visitor center is also called "The Famous Grouse Experience"
What do I have in the glass?
The Glenturret has a very distinct character: Nutty, malty notes with pronounced vanilla sweetness and an almost creamy, oily-smooth body.
3 reasons to love Glenturret
1) Because 240 years deserve respect.
2) Because the same applies to 28,899 mice.
3) Because the malt tastes so nice after biscuit baking.
The one drama for the lonely island
The 21-year-old (!) Individual cask bottling from Signatory offers the best glenturret character at a very fair price.
