Glenallachie

Translation: Felsental
Region: Speyside

Pretty busy in the "swinging sixties".

The 1960s? Maybe one thinks of the Beatles, the swinging London and flower children in San Francisco. But Scottish whiskey also enjoyed its biggest boom here. Rarely before and never again have so many new distilleries been created in such a short time. Between 1960 and 1968, eleven distilleries, including Glenallachie, were completely rebuilt. Four more were built within existing distillery complexes.
At that time, however, the pure enjoyment, the singing malt, was not yet possible. Above all, the distilleries were supposed to produce supplies for the booming blended whiskeys. So also Glenallachie. The malt is at the heart of the Clan Campbell Blend - which today sells 20 million bottles a year. Luckily, there is still a bit of something for us single malt lover over. Cheers!

A little history

Glenallachie was founded in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson & Co., a subsidiary of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd.
In 1985, Glenallachie went with the Isle of Jura Distillery to Invergordon Distillers.
In 1987, the distillery was closed
In 1989, Campbell Distillers, owned by Pernod Ricard, bought Glenallachie and resumed production after two more stills had been installed.
Most of the malts goes to the successful Blend Clan Campbell.

What do I actually have in the glass?

The Glenallachie is a very fine, light malt with a delicate fruity sweetness.

3 reasons to love Glenallachie

1) Because the Malt is an elegant fine spirit.
2) Because Ben Rinnes rises so majestically in the background.
3) Because a boom is over, but quality is timeless.

The one drama for the lonely island

The elegant 21-year-old (!) From the series "The Single Malts of Scotland" is pure pleasure in Cask Strength - at a very fair price.
