To be precise, Sloe Gin is not a gin, but a gin-based liqueur. It is created by macerating finished (London) dry gin with the addition of sugar and sloe berries. Sloe gin has an alcohol content of around 28-30%. Due to the addition of at least 100 grams of sugar per litre, it is sweet with fruity berry notes and a slight bitter and juniper note. The colour of Sloe Gin is light to deep red due to the berries it contains. It is mainly drunk neat, but is also used as a base for cocktails, such as Sloe Gin Collins or Sloe Gin Negroni.
