Whisky Gifts Guide - 10 tips and gift ideas
Whisky makes a great gift. The golden water of life is not only a treat for whisky lovers, it usually looks good too! But how do I find the right whisky to give away as a present?
In our Whisky Gifts Guide we will help you to hit the mark and give joy and moments of pleasure.
1. Find the right taste when buying whisky
One of the most difficult parts of gifting whisky is getting the flavor right. A good whisky can cost quite a bit, so a bad purchase is all the more annoying.
If you know the recipient well and know which whiskys he/she particularly likes, it will be easier for you to find a suitable whisky to give as a gift. Is the lucky one more into Scotch or Irish whiskey? Does he/she prefer bourbon or single malt?
For example, if the recipient is a fan of smoky whisky, follow the link. You can then use the filters to sort by age, price and region. The same applies to whisky without smoke.
2. Gift a whisky lover
The recipient knows whisky well and is a fan of a particular distillery. Then you can search for it under All Distilleries & Brands and find a bottle that is still missing. Or you can look to independent bottlers for a limited special edition of the recipient's favorite distillery. He/she certainly doesn't have them at home yet!
Experienced whisky lovers often look for natural single malts. Take a look at our selection of whiskys without chill-filtration and whisky with natural color.
3. Give gifts to whisky newbies
The recipient is a whisky novice, or you don't know the personal taste of the recipient? Then we advise you to choose a whisky that meets the broadest possible taste. This is how you play it safe.
Especially whisky newcomers tend to drink rather mild whisky. The low volume percentages do not overwhelm the palate. A higher age can also ensure more softness and more varied aromas. The whisky loses its sharpness with age and therefore burns less.
Great examples of milder aged whisky are Glenfiddich 15 Year Old, Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old and Glenfarclas 25 Year Old.
Among our top 10 beginner whiskies you will find a handpicked selection of perfect whiskys for newcomers.
4. Go for variety - whisky sets and whisky samples
Giving a large variety of whisky and saving money at the same time? Whisky sets and whisky samples give you the opportunity to literally minimize the risk of a bad buy. The great advantage of tasting sets is obvious: the recipient can easily try different bottlings. The purchase risk is low because you do not pay for a whole bottle, but only for the samples. In our tasting selections you will find perfect gifts to take a small enjoyable tour through the Scottish whisky regions, Ireland and even with gin and rum. Or you can simply put together your own whisky tasting with our whisky samples.
5. Whisky gifts for Christmas
Which whisky should I give as a Christmas gift? Whisky as a Christmas present is a good idea. The cold season is ideal for getting cosy with a dram of whisky on the sofa or in front of the fireplace. In addition, at Christmas you often get together with family and friends and so always have a nice gift to share and socialize with.
For whisky lovers, a whisky advent calendar is ideal for the pre-Christmas period. 24 whisky samples are hidden in 24 little doors. The recipient can discover new whiskies and maybe put their whisky knowledge to the test with a little blind tasting. An advent calendar is therefore a great gift for whisky lovers! We also have a great gift ready for rum connoisseurs with the rum advent calendar!
Special editions of whisky with a Christmas theme are also popular gifts, such as the Glenfarclas Christmas Edition or the Big Peat Christmas Edition.
6. Make your gift personal
The most beautiful gifts are those with which you connect a personal story. Think about what you associate with the recipient, what is important to him/her and what the preferences are. Maybe you will find a suitable topic. Is the recipient interested in maritime topics or marine protection, for example? A Sea Shepherd whisky, gin or rum with donations is definitely a great idea! Is your friend a travel fanatic or passionate about a certain country? Look at our whisky countries and find a whisky from the right country. Sustainability and environmental protection are important to you and your friends? Gift them an organic whisky from Nc'nean in beautiful, sustainable bottles. Or a Deanston whisky made with electricity from their own hydroelectric power station!
7. Birthday whisky & Vintage Whisky
Would you like to give away a whisky from a specific year, for a year of birth, a birthday, an anniversary? Just click on our whisky category and use the filters for "distilled" or "bottled". Here you can search for whiskys made in a specific year or bottled. Vintage whiskys are often also suitable as collectors' whiskys or investments, as they are usually very limited and often have a great age.
8. Collectable Whisky gifts & investment whisky
If you want to give away a whisky that has the potential to increase in value, we recommend old and limited whiskies. Of course, no one can predict how much a whisky will gain value. At the moment, however, the trend is towards increasing the value of old whiskies, i.e. whiskies over 18 years old. Because the demand for old whiskies continues to increase, while these rare whiskies need around two decades to be completed. So if you give away a whisky that is old, according to the current state of knowledge, the value will be retained and the probability of an increase in value is high. As already explained with the vintage whiskys, you can also simply filter by a certain age with our filters by vintage. Click here and you will get to our range of old whiskies.
9. Give away whisky accessories
For whisky lovers there are many useful and beautiful gifts that can be given in addition to the whisky. With us you will also find a lot of great whisky accessories such as literature and films about the water of life. Whisky glasses, nosing glasses, as well as jugs and carafes also make good gifts. Beautiful gifts for lovers and connoisseurs for every occasion. Many distilleries also offer whisky gift sets of their whiskies, either bulk bottles with free glasses, or a mix of several whiskys as samples or 20cl or 35cl variants. Also a great choice!
10. Whisky Gift Vouchers
Are you unsure what the recipient would be happy about? Then our gift vouchers are the solution! So the lucky one can simply choose a gift from our large range of Scotch Whisky, Whisky, Rum and Gin.
