Portrait: What makes the Daftmill Winter Batch Release 2011/2024 special
At Daftmill Farm in the Scottish Lowlands everything revolves around cows, potatoes, carrots and the cultivation of malting barley. Since 2006, the Cuthbert family has also been processing their own grain into celebrated single malt whiskey. This rare farm whisky is always aged for at least ten years. strong> after it is distilled in very small quantities, sometimes no more than 100 barrels per year. only in the off-season (June and July as well as in winter), when neither potatoes need to be planted nor barley sown.
The new Daftmill 2011/2024 is based on barley of the Publican variety, which was harvested by John and Sandy on August 28th and 29th, 2009. Malted at Crisp Malt in Alloa in the summer of 2010, the farm distillery distilled it into its Winter Batch Release. 27 first fill Bourbon Barrels were filled in December 2011 and bottled in 7,500 bottles in fall 2024.
