No, we are not in Texas here.

Even if you could come up with the name Dallas Dhu on the idea. "Dallas" is derived from the Gaelic name for valley and water and means something like a wet, fertile pasture or meadow. Dhu means black.
The distillery of this name is unfortunately out of service since 1983 - but not closed. Today it serves as a whiskey museum, where you can learn a lot about the art of burning and the history of whiskey in the Scottish Highlands. Visitors welcome.

A little history

The distillery was founded in 1898 by Wright & Greig Ltd. founded. Their owners included a certain Alexander Edward. The was very active and shaped the Scottish whiskey world sustainable. Among other things, he owned the distilleries Aultmore, Benromach, Craigellachie, Benrinnes and Oban.

In 1929, Dallas Dhu was bought by the Distillers Company Limited (DCL), which they shut down a year later. It was not until 1936 that production started again. In 1939, parts of the distillery were destroyed by fire.1947 Dallas Dhu was rebuilt and put into operation. Much of the whiskey went into the then popular blend "Roderick Dhu".

In 1983, the distillery was closed and finally in 1986 the company Historic Scotland left. This made sure that the old equipment and buildings were carefully renovated and turned the distillery into a whiskey museum that has been on display since 1988.

What do I actually have in the glass?

The Dallas Dhu has its own character, difficult to describe. Freshly mown, juicy hay combines with vanilla and a fruity sweetness. Great aperitif, "mouth watering" ...!
