Compass Box Whisky

"John Glaser is an artist".

This was written by the connoisseur magazine "Saveur" about the founder and head of Compass Box. John Glaser also sees himself as the "Artisan Scotch Whiskey Maker", his company as the "Boutique Scotch Whiskey Blending Company".
In fact, the Compass Box Whiskeys are "composed" with high creativity. Unlike many other independent bottlers, the focus here is not on filling individual barrels of a single malts. Instead, new whiskeys are created by bringing together several barrels of different distilleries, each aiming at a specific character. The blends created in this way are very independent. Her character ranges from the lush peaty fullness of a "Peat Monster" to the delicate, fruity lightness of "Asyla".
However, the creativity of Compass Box is not always something for purists and guardians of pure teaching. That's the way to go with the influential Scotch Whiskey Association, which rebuked the "Spice Tree" whiskey in barrels with additional oak wood sticks inside. Or you can add extracts of orange peel, cassia cinnamon and clove to the whiskey. This highly interesting new spirit called "Orangerie" can no longer call itself whiskey and is sold by Compass Box as "Scotch Whiskey Infusion".
Whatever you think about it, one thing is certain: Compass Box is very successful. The whiskeys are awarded several times. And the company has been honored by Whiskey Magazine several times as "Innovator of the Year". Our tip: try it out.

Which whiskey do they make?

From Compass Box there are now different series with a wealth of self-composed blended whiskeys. Here one also called the blend of different malts, otherwise called Vatted Malt, as "Blended Malt Scotch Whiskey". The most famous line, the Signature Range, includes five whiskeys: Three Blended Malts (Oak Cross, Spice Tree, Peat Monster), a Blended Grain (Hedonism) and a Blended Scotch Whiskey, so malt and grain united, called Asyla. Under the Limited Editions label high quality features are marketed in small numbers. The blended whiskeys of the "Great King Street" range are a tribute to the great Scottish blends of the 19th century. And finally there is the "Orangerie" called "Scotch Whiskey Infusion", for which the whiskey was flavored with orange peel, cassia cinnamon and clove.

As mentioned earlier, Compass Box's specialty is - unlike most other independent bottlers - not single (cask) malts, but rather carefully composed, high quality blends.
