Blended malt whisky is a blend or cuvée of different single malt whiskies. This separate category of whisky is particularly widespread in Scotland with blended malt Scotch whisky. In the past, this type of whisky was also known as pure malt or vatted malt. By blending different single malts, new exciting flavour profiles are created. Among whisky lovers, single malts are regarded as the top class of whiskies, as they are considered to have the greatest aromatic depth. When blending several single malts, no grain whisky is added to the malt blend. This distinguishes the blended malt from blended whisky or blended Scotch whisky. Due to the use of the word "blend", blended malt whiskies are often confused with classic blended whiskies. Therefore, pay attention to the exact designation. If the word "malt" is included in the description, such as "malt blend" or "blended malt", it is a pure malt whisky. The full flavour of the malt whisky is therefore retained.
