Aultmore
Aultmore whisky is a real Scotch insider tip. For a long time, Aultmore was only used for the blending industry. The enormous importance and quality of the Speyside single malt becomes clear at one point in its history. When the parent company Dewar's was taken over by the drinks group Bacardi, the buyer would probably have cancelled the deal if Aultmore had not been included. What does Aultmore taste like? Today, you can also buy the fruity and floral Speyside single malt as a standard bottling. You can also find independent bottlers. Aultmore whiskies are not smoky, but show slight herbal notes that are interpreted as floral or grassy . Extremely exciting and aromatic!

In the realm of Alexander the Great
Alexander Edwards, the founder of Aultmore, was one of the great, formative figures of the whisky world. In 1891, he founded the Craigellachie Distillery together with "Restless Peter" Mackie. In 1896, he also inherited the Benrinnes distillery from his father. In the same year, Alexander then established Aultmore. And in 1898, his "Oban & Aultmore Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd." also took over the Oban distillery on the west coast. A sizeable malt whisky empire that Alexander Edwards ruled over in his heyday. And he was obviously quite far-sighted. Because even today, many years after his death, all of his distilleries still exist and enjoy excellent health. Cheers to Alexander the Great!
What does Aultmore mean? The translation for Aultmore is "great stream".
Where is Aultmore? The Aultmore Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside near the village of Keith, which is also home to the Strathisla Distillery.
3 reasons to love Aultmore
1) Because the Aultmore 12 years smells so beautifully of spring meadow and herb garden.
2) Because Aultmore is the heart of Dewar's Blends.
3) Because Alexander Edwards' life's work is in every sip.
What does Aultmore whisky taste like?
The Aultmore has a medium body and a well-balanced sweetness. The pronounced notes of fruit, grass and spices are typical.
Our Aultmore recommendation
The original bottling, which has not been available for some time, Aultmore 12 Years shows wonderfully what Aultmore is all about: aromas of ripe fruit and spices, a fruity-sweet flavour with a restrained spiciness, wheat biscuits and vanilla, oak, vanilla and lots of spices in the long finish.
A little history on Aultmore
The Aultmore distillery was established in Keith in 1896 by Alexander Edwards. In 1898, it was transferred to Edwards' newly founded company Oban & Aultmore-Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd. In 1913, Aultmore was taken over by John Dewar & Sons, and in 1925 by the Distillers Company Limited (DCL). In the course of renovation work in 1970/1971, the capacity was doubled from two to four stills. In 1987, United Distillers (UD) took over the distillery. In the course of the merger that created the drinks giant Diageo, UD had to divest itself of Dewar's and thus also Aultmore for antitrust reasons. Together with Bombay Sapphire Gin, Dewar's and Aultmore went to Bacardi for £1,150 million.
