Portrait: What makes the Providence 2021 Pure Single Rum special
In the sugar cane paradise of Haiti the Italian bottler Velier met, Led by rum aficionado Luca Gargano, together with La Maison du Whisky and the Barbancourt-Linge family (descendants of the famous Barbancourt rum dynasty) they dreamed of owning their own distillery in 2018. The Distillerie de Port au Prince revives traditional methods and techniques and produces the finest sugar cane distillates with Providence - with respect for the land, agriculture and people.
In addition to dunder, the aromatic liquid that remains in the still after distillation, the Providence 2021 was also made from the syrup of the ancient, aromatic Cristalline sugar cane variety is produced. Organically grown by Michel Sajous in Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye. Fermentation with various yeasts also contributes strong aromas. According to Haitian tradition, distilled twice in a copper Müller still, the Haitian Pure Single Rum matured for three years in former, newly burned and repeatedly filled and emptied barrels from the distillery - as well as bourbon casks and former casks from the iconic “lost distillery” Caroni.
The Effect? A lively profile in which roasted sugar cane and walnut meet candied citrus fruits, ginger and vanilla pudding, before everything ends gently, long and complex.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Providence 2021 Pure Single Rum tastes like
- Nose: ethereal and subtle - fulfilling at the beginning lovely aromas of lightly roasted cane sugar fill the air - over time vanilla, candied mandarin and roasted walnut develop, giving the aroma palette a lot of energy
- Palate: pure and lively - candied lemons and fibrous aromas of sugar cane and grated ginger immediately conquer the palate - milky and fruity notes of pudding and roasted banana gradually develop.
- Finish: long and gentle in the finish - the enjoyment is prolonged by the extremely delicate and special mouthfeel - raspberries, honey and ginger add momentum to the calm yet complex aftertaste
