Founded in 1825, had Edradour changed owners - from the New York Mafia to Andrew Symington , the brains behind Signatory Vintage. The production has hardly changed: Edradour works largely as in the 19th century, including with original equipment. Having long since become a legend among single malt fans, the Highland distillery produces its peatiest single malts under the Ballechin brand, distilled from malt with at least 50 ppm phenol content.
The Ballechin 18 year old is one of the oldest bottlings of the brand for smoke fans. For the second batch of Ballechin 18 year old in addition to Bourbon, this time also Sherry Casks were used. Extensively matured, the Highlander combines peat smoke with oak spice and creates a delicious balance with malt sweets, dark fruits and chocolate.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Ballechin 18 year old Cask Strength Edition Batch #002 tastes like

• Nose: intense peat smoke paired with spicy oak, followed by strong aromas of fresh malt sweets and ripe dark fruits
• Palate: complex and round with clear notes of peat and malt, then again the dark fruits, especially plums and cherries, paired with chocolate and some toffee
• Finish: long on the finish with lots of peat and oak wood - the fruits and chocolate are accompanied by barley malt
