Portrait: What makes the Lagavulin 12 year old Special Release 2024 special

On Scotland's westernmost Hebridean island Islay is home to the distillery Lagavulin - the Lagavulin 12 year old is their version for Diageo's special release range in 2024.
What if smoke became inviting sweetness? A Scotch whisky with the character of oak and a rich, sweet aroma. The 12 year old Lagavulin develops notes of toffee, vanilla and coconut, refined by aromatic spices and sweetness.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Lagavulin 12 year old Special Release 2024 tastes like

  • Nose: dry and gentle, with freshness , clean phenols and subtle fruit aromas such as rowan berry jelly and unripe red currants, plus a hint of ash - in the background soft toffee and Vanilla
  • Palate: creamy and mouth-filling in texture, at first very sweet with notes of fresh vanilla and toffee, then quickly drying, with hints of salt, coconut and controlled smokiness - with a little water increases the sweetness
  • Finish: long, powerfully smoky and dry, with a note of warming spices that lingers for a long time
