Portrait: What makes the Nc'Nean Aon 5 year old STR Red Wine Cask #18-393 special

Nc'nean, under the leadership of Annabel Thomas, does basic work for the sustainable production of Scotch Whisky.
The distillery from a wildly romantic, remote corner of the Highlands works exclusively with Scottish organic barley and 100 percent renewable energy.

Distillation has been ongoing on the coast of the Morvern peninsula since 2017.

The Nc'nean Aon 5 year old STR Red Wine Cask #18 -393 was bottled from a single STR Red Wine Cask (STR = “scraped” or “shaved”, “toasted”, “recharred”). The Single Cask offers the opportunity to taste one of the most important components of the Nc'nean recipe in its purest form - with delicious notes of candied ginger, spiced apricots and blackberry jam.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Nc'Nean Aon 5 year old STR Red Wine Cask #18-393 tastes like

  • Nose: candied ginger and spiced apricots, plus light aromas of light chocolate and red fruits
  • Palate: mouth-filling with clear notes of fresh blackberry jam and roasted nuts - then again the candied ginger, some butterscotch and bright fruits
  • Finish: long and dry with nutty tones, toasted wood and dried apricots and figs
