Exactly one year after the launch of its very first Single Malt whisky, the Isle of Harris Distillery is presenting its second bottling on September 24th, 2024!
On its ninth birthday, there are two reasons to celebrate for those in Tarbert, the capital of the Isle of Harris , built a “social distillery” whose goal is to create as many jobs and training positions as possible.
There are now 45 Hearachs who are employed full-time at the distillery, alongside various part-time employees! A huge influence on an island community of just 1,916 residents.

For the second bottling, which now expands the range of the Isle of Harris Distillery, first-class former Oloroso Sherry Butts were sourced from the renowned family-run Bodega José y Miguel Martin sourced in Andalusia, the quality of which was confirmed on site in 2015 with visits to the bodega. First-class sherry matured in these casks before they were filled with Harris New Make Spirit.
Continuous maturation in these fine casks gives The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured a distinct depth, lushness and complexity - the perfect complement to the light peatiness of the distillate.

Due to the complete maturation in Oloroso Sherry Butts, the second Core Range bottling from the Hebridean distillery differs significantly from the first The Hearach, which has a vatting of 85% exBourbon, as well as 11% exOloroso and 4% exFino Sherry Casks.

Tasting Notes: This is how The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured tastes like

• Nose: Spicy aromas of freshly ground cinnamon, orange peel and cloves First, reminiscent of the Christmas season - followed by fresh herbs  paired with white chocolate
• Palate: Mouth-filling with clear notes of ripe walnuts and chimney smoke, with a hint of thyme and ripe oranges
• Finish: Vanilla pods and exotic Spices lead to a long finish with delicate leather and licorice notes
