Portrait: What makes the Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 year old special

The new Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 year old is truly a single malt Scotch whiskey for connoisseurs. Inspired by the sweet scents of French patisseries, this whisky is first matured in former Bourbon Casks and then refined in sweet White Wine Casks from France, Spain and Hungary. Sauternes and Montbazillac Casks add rich dough and baked apple notes, Moscatel Casks add sweet, syrupy dessert notes, while Tokaji Casks contribute white chocolate, almond and honeycomb flavors.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 year old tastes like

  • Nose: full, lush aromas of freshly baked goods, plus intense wine aromas, ripe apricots, roasted chestnuts and roasted almonds - behind them warm vanilla pudding and lots of chocolate - in the background sweet oranges and fresh herbs, especially basil, sage and a little chervil
  • Palate: creamy and mouth-filling with freshness Citrus notes, plus vanilla and chestnuts again, clearly juicy raisins - then getting spicier with freshly chopped oak, star anise and nutmeg
  • Finish: the finish is long and full - the citrus fruits and fresh pastries are present initially, followed by light fruits and soft honey
