Portrait: What makes the GlenAllachie 21 year old Batch 5 Cask Strength special

When the team around whisky luminary Billy Walker took over The GlenAllachie Distillery and its filled Casks in 2017 and brought them back into Scottish hands, the distillery from Speyside produced almost exclusively for blending Industry. This tide has quickly turned: GlenAllachie's standard range now consists of single malts that are at least eight years old. Their characteristic: The standards mature primarily in selected sherry casks.
 
With an expertise that spans over half a century, Billy Walker married the cask-strong batch 5 hand-picked Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons and hogsheads.

The result? A rich, luxurious single malt whisky that glazes the palate with molasses, oranges and raisin butter.

Tasting Notes: This is what GlenAllachie 21 year old Batch 5 Cask Strength tastes like

  • Nose: Aromas of honeycomb and old brandy, plus the scent of molasses and tart with spicy blood oranges and cocoa powder - followed by black truffles and caramelized brown sugar
  • Palate: soft and full in taste with rich notes of strong chocolate, baking spices and clementine peels, followed by molasses and fresh fruit  
  • Finish: Candied ginger, black cherries, butter and raisins in the long finish
