Portrait: What makes the Lochlea Cask Strength Batch #2 special

It is a rarity in the Scottish distillery landscape: The Lochlea Distillery is independent, family-run - and builds as one A few distilleries in Scotland produce their own barley. The effect? Control over the entire production process and traceability from the field to the bottle.

With the Lochlea Cask Strength Batch #2, the farm distillery is the second in a series of annual bottlings. Bottled directly from the cask, the experience is like coming straight from the warehouse. Batch #2 is therefore completely new for Lochlea: It consists of a combination of Oloroso- and Pedro Ximénez-Sherry Casks as well as STR Wine Casks (Casks in which the inner layer of wood has been thinly removed before being toasted and finally re-charred on the surface). At 60%vol. This cask selection excellently enhances the fruit, nut and grain flavors characteristic of Lochlea.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Lochlea Cask Strength Batch # 2 tastes like

• Nose: strong aromas of dark fruits, reminiscent of a strong punch with lots of red fruits, behind it nutty aromas and lots of malt - in the background the scent of tobacco leaves and spicier Oak
• Palate: mouth-filling and soft in taste - above all ripe red fruits and Brazil nuts, followed by notes of ripe grain, fresh pastries and lots of barley malt
• Finish: long and full on the finish - the fruits and malt carry the finish - slight hints of nuts, tobacco and leather are noticeable
