Portrait: What makes Waterford - The Cuvée Koffi special

Waterford has changed the understanding of single malt whisky. When it comes to origin, terroir and transparency, the Irish set standards. Now luminary Mark Reynier and his team are launching their core range with Waterford - The Cuvée Koffi.

The single malt is the ultimate expression of Waterford. The flagship is the distillery's oldest and most complex bottling to date. The 24 individual single farm origin whiskeys matured for at least six years in cask types from Bourbon to Amarone. Combined by head distiller Ned Gahan to create a cuvée, they create a whiskey that is more than the sum of its parts. This is confirmed, among other things, by the award with double gold from the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Waterford - The Cuvée Koffi is named after the French artist Nathanaël Koffi.His lively work of art adorns the label of the standard - and reflects its multifaceted nature.

The Cask types used:

36% First Fill Bourbon Barrels
26% Vin Doux Naturel Casks (Oloroso Sherry, Moscatel-Sherry, Amarone)
21% Casks made from premium French oak (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafitte, Château Latour, Château Palmer, Château Lynch Bages, Château Liouner)
17% Virgin Oak Casks made from American Oak

Tasting Notes: This is how the Waterford - The Cuvée Koffi tastes like

• Nose: exciting combination of red apple on homemade brown bread with a cup of tea , behind it citrus fruit jam, sparkling white pepper and mixed herbs, in the background cola and fizzy candies as well as a hint of lavender in fresh earth
• Palate: spicy notes dancing gently on the tongue, plus Shortbread with lemon and strawberry, black pepper, grapefruit, chili chocolate, saltine crackers, barley sugar candies, summer fruit compote and licorice confectionery
• Finish: long and dry on the finish with a lingering gentle spice that transferred to dried fruits
