Portrait: What Ben Nevis Traditional Peated Malt.

Ben Nevis Single Malt has been officially distilled at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain since 1825. In spring 2024, the distillery will bring back a popular classic. The Traditional Peated Malt was first bottled in 2011 as a limited edition. Unlike other whiskeys from Ben Nevis, it is based on peat malt - and thus honors the times when peat was still used to heat the kiln.
 
Begins at 1,345 meters above sea level the journey of a key ingredient for the whisky: water. On its way from the summit of Ben Nevis it flows, among other things, through the breathtaking rock formations of the Coire Leis. One of the distillery's few original bottlings available in Europe is dedicated to the small lake.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Ben Nevis Traditional Peated Malt tastes

  • Nose: ripe bright fruits, especially apricots and peaches, plus papaya, mango and Seville oranges - behind them you can see exotic spices - above all, earthy peat smoke
  • Palate: mouth-filling, almost creamy and full in taste - now noticeably spicier, the earthy smoke is present, paired with roasted walnuts and dark dark chocolate
  • Finish: long and warm on the finish - soft peat smoke with hints of roasted nuts - slightly fruity in the background
