Portrait: What makes the Scallywag The Chocolate Edition 2024 special

The 7th edition of the Scallywag Chocolate Edition. The limited edition was given a finish in former port wine barrels for the first time.

The Scallywag brand, a small batch bottling within the Remarkable Regional Malts, saw the light in 2013 Light of the world and has always consisted of the finest Single Casks Single Malts from Scottish Speyside. 
 
The black bottle and the bespoke paper packaging are both a first for the Scallywag brand. 
Consciously chosen by Douglas Laing, the elegant appearance captures the key characteristics of a classic port bottling while retaining the key attributes of the Scallywag brand.

Douglas Laing is celebrating the release with an exciting Golden Ticket competition where you have the chance to win prizes if you click on a Golden Ticket or a Scallywag Golden Bone (the main prize) you will be lucky to find these in the packaging.

The competition takes place throughout the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands.

Scott Morrison, Brand Manager, commented on the new bottling as follows:“As the seventh Scallywag Chocolate Edition, we wanted to offer consumers something different, something new and exciting things that make the taste buds tingle. We haven't tried the port cask finish on our Speyside Malt, but it made perfect sense for this new expression with its classic characteristics. The consumer competition, inspired by the iconic film 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', adds an interesting dimension to the release and keeps things fresh - something we are proud of here at Douglas Laing."

Tasting Notes: This is what the Scallywag The Chocolate Edition 2024 tastes like

• Nose: clear aromas of brown cane sugar, juicy wild berries and lots of dark chocolate
• Palate: mouth-filling and soft - the dark chocolate again Abundance, plus buttery caramel with fruity berries - above all warm baking spices
• Finish: long and sweet in the finish, with a hint of creamy chocolate pralines, a little vanilla and the baking spices again
