Portrait: What makes the Kilchoman Batch Strength special
In spring 2023, Kilchoman will present a Batch Strength bottling for the first time - this will appear continuously in batches.
Created by Kilchoman Master Distiller Anthony Wills, the whiskey matured in an elaborate cask composition of re-charred red wine, Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks.
To an alcohol strength of 57%vol, a few drops of the finest spring water were added to the Islay Single Malt to express the intense character of Kilchoman with dark fruits, rich spices and honey.
Kilchoman is one of the few farm distilleries in Scotland.
Every step of whisky production is carried out in the traditional way, from harvesting the barley to filling the bottles, everything is done directly at Kilchoman.
The whiskies from Kilchoman are characterized by their strong smoky notes, which are so typical of the island of Islay.
On the malting floor, the barley is traditionally malted and kilned The island's own peat is used, which gives the whisky its intensely smoky aroma.
Tasting Notes: This is what the Kilchoman Batch Strength tastes like
- Nose: ripe red fruits, especially fresh cherries are present, followed by heather flowers and an intense peat smoke
- Palate: full and rich in taste - at the beginning strong toffee and intense spicy notes, then vanilla and the fruits again - over everything rich peat smoke
- Finish: velvety-soft in the finish with tones of fresh flatbread, butter and Honey
