Portrait: What makes the Bushmills Caribbean Rum Cask Finish special

The Bushmills Caribbean Rum Cask Finish initially matured in former Bourbon & Sherry casks, then the whiskey received a finish for at least 7 years in former rum casks from the Caribbean.

Bushmills is considered the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. As early as 1608, Sir Tomas Phillips received royal distilling rights. Bushmill's success to this day is primarily due to its first-class, traditional work. Under the motto “hand crafted, small batches, smooth taste” we create award-winning Irish whiskeys whose high quality impresses connoisseurs all over the world. Bushmills offers excellent blended whiskeys as well as a range of great single malts. All malts are distilled three times. In the traditional way, the mash contains unmalted barley; drying over peat smoke is completely avoided. This gives the malt whiskeys from Bushmills Distillery their typically soft and fruity character and tastes significantly less rough than Scottish malts.  
 

Tasting Notes: This is how the Bushmills Caribbean Rum Cask Finish tastes like

  • Nose: the scent of Demerara sugar, fried banana, popcorn and brown butter is present
  • Palate: lovely, floral taste with a sweetness of caramelized bananas and vanilla
  • Finish: the finish is medium-long and underlined with an elegant sweetness of Demerara sugar and bananas
