Portrait: What makes the Bruichladdich 24 year old Black Art Edition 11.1 special
Since its launch in 2012 Bruichladdich Black Art fascinates whisky fans all over the world with its mysterious appeal. In contrast to Bruichladdich's traditional commitment to complete transparency (the full version is presented here Recipe of each individual malt from the cask type to the specific barley variety and origin revealed), the Bruichladdich Black Art is created in complete secrecy.
Unique and unrepeatable, only Head Distiller Adam Hannett knows the final recipe for Bruichladdich Black Art.
The composition of the barrels and their origin remain mysterious, only the vintage, age and alcohol content are revealed.
Head Distiller Adam Hannett:
"Every year I welcome the creation of Black Art with open arms, as a whiskey producer it is liberating to have complete creative freedom. It is a Chance to delve deep into our warehouses and experiment, ask questions and explore the realms of possibility."
The 24 year old Single Malt Bruichladdich 24 year old Black Art Edition 11.1 was made from Renaissance casks from the Bruichladdich Distillery that have been patiently aged exclusively on Islay for almost three decades.
Tasting Notes: This is what the Bruichladdich 24 year old Black Art Edition 11.1 tastes like
- Nose: distinct aromas of dried fruits, leather and a hint of citrus fruits, followed by a delicate bouquet of rosehip syrup, poached Pear and sweet mango
- Palate: at the beginning again the soft dried fruits, paired with barley sugar and a hint of leather, behind it roasted oak wood and a velvety butterscotch sweetness with hints of nutty pralines and a hint of coconut
- Finish: soft on the finish, wonderfully rounded - reminiscent of a rich Christmas cake with notes of sultanas, marzipan and soft honey
