Portrait: What defines the Last Ward Barbados 16 year old 2007.
Mount Gay is like his homeland Barbados: a veteran of the rum world. If you refer to the earliest written documents, it was The distillery was founded on the Caribbean island in 1703. This makes it the oldest operating distillery in the world. In 1918, the Bajan Ward family became part of the success story when they acquired Mount Gay Estate. The Wards still have shares in the distillery to this day. The last member of the family to run the distillery was Frank Ward.
With the Last Ward Barbados 2007, Velier is honoring the long-time owner family of the iconic distillery. The Pure Single Rum is a cuvée made from 13 barrels from the 2007 vintage, which were still owned by Frank Ward. Triple distilled in the pot still, the rum was filled into bourbon casks and matured for 16 years in the tropical climate of Barbados. 70 percent went to the angels.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Last Ward Barbados 16 year old 2007 tastes
- Nose: sophisticated and complex - aromas of candied apricot, leaves and forest floor reminiscent of Grande Champagne Cognac move on to cardamom and nutmeg, then exotic fruits such as mango and pomegranate with the same intensity, as well as aromas of Precious wood
- Palate: full-bodied and intense, notes of cane sugar, molasses and geranium take over the taste palette - with impressive vitality the middle palate is refreshed by pressed oranges
- Finish: long and full, with sugar cane and roasted notes like coffee and spices like ginger and cinnamon - then increasingly floral and vegetal (pipe tobacco), accompanied by notes of walnut, hazelnut and almond
