Portrait: What makes the Pacto Navio French Oak Red Wine Cask special.

After long years of war, the Europeans made peace in the early 19th century and signed a far-reaching peace treaty called "El Pacto"!
Through this treaty, well-known and established trade routes to the new world were resumed and French merchant ships brought, among many other goods, Casks filled with sweet Sauternes Wine to Cuba.
The wine was sold there and the now empty Casks were filled with the local rum and taken back home brought.
The fresh rum was stored in the Sauternes Wine Casks for a few months and in this way acquired a special aroma and taste.

This is the story that leads to this noble rum, Pacto Navio.
The rum was finished in selected former Red Wine Casks from Bordeaux in France.

Tasting Notes: This is what the Pacto Navio French Oak Red Wine Cask tastes like

  • Nose: ripe tropical fruits with an elegant sweetness, followed by creamy honey and vanilla, some toffee and roasted aromas
  • Palate: the fruits again, now with more spicy notes of oak and herbs
  • Finish: long in the finish - clearly juicy dried fruits and an exotic spice
