The festival of many faces!

On the island of Negros, the city of Bacolod celebrates the Masskara Festival (span.: mass means "many" - span.: cara means "face") every fourth Sunday in October - it is the largest and most colorful festival on the Philippine island, a lively and colorful event whose origins can be found in a tragic story.

In 1980, Negros experienced an economic crisis, the price of sugar cane, the island's main commodity, was at an all-time low. In April of that year, many people of the island, including well-known people from prominent families, lost their lives in the collision and sinking of the passenger ship MV Don Juan with a passing tanker.

These events plunged the population into a deep crisis and depression, the local government decided in October 1980 that it was time to lift everyone's spirits and so, with the support of local artists, civic groups and businessmen, the Festival of Many Faces was born.

To this day, the Masskara Festival represents a true declaration of the will of the people to rise above adversity and triumph over crisis, tragedy and disaster.

Don Papa Masskara is a premium rum from the Philippines for the production of which only local spices, fruits and honey are used.

On the fertile volcanic soil of the island of Negros also thrives particularly high-quality sugar cane.

Don Papa Masskara is distilled from molasses - known as "black gold" - and then matures in American oak barrels.

The rum is blended with a pot still infusion of calamansi and siling labuyo and sweetened with regional honey.

This creates a rich and complex rum spirit.
