Portrait: What makes The Octomore Edition 14.3 special.

The perfect addition to the 14 series is The Octomore Edition 14.3, distilled from 100% Islay Barley. The barley comes from Octomore Farm, two miles away, and gives The Octomore Edition 14.3 a distinctly grainy note.
The influence of terroir - i.e. which barley is grown and processed where and by whom - can be clearly felt here.  
Head Distiller Adam Hannett chose a combination of first-fill exAmerican oak barrels and second-fill wine barrels for maturation. The wood works with the whiskey but does not dominate it. The influence of the Islay terroir can still be clearly seen. The “earthy” The Octomore Edition 14.3 is reminiscent of warm, sweet mash and barley malt with some butterscotch, creamy porridge, honeycomb, fine vanilla and lots of peat smoke (a proud phenol content of 214.2ppm).  

Tasting Notes: This is what The Octomore Edition 14.3 tastes like

• Nose: smells exactly the same it on the grounds of the Bruichladdich Distillery! - soft, biscuit-like malt, followed by peat smoke and lots of stone fruit, especially ripe apricots and peaches, as well as pears drizzled with honey, with lemon peel and caramel, honeycomb, chocolate and vanilla ice cream
• Palate: Oak wood and smoldering peat are present, floral notes reminiscent of broom and honeysuckle mix with creamy porridge, sweet vanilla and toffee to create an extremely harmonious work of art
• Finish: very dominant barley malt and earthy smoke in the finish, followed by sweet caramel and fine vanilla
