- Unusual label, designed by the Japanese artist Yamaguchi Akira
Portrait: What makes the Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo
Numerous visits to Tokyo with culinary experiences, impressions and memories inspired Dr. Bill Lumsden (Master Blender at Glenmorangie & Ardbeg) about this whisky. For the first time, he also experimented with rare Japanese Mizunara oak barrels, which reveal enchanting contrasts: notes of pepper meet bitter cherry and coconut, while aromas of orange zest mix with oriental incense and sweet oak. The finish features typical Glenmorangie notes such as mandarin, almond and marzipan.
Japanese artist Yamaguchi Akira translated the flavors of A Tale of Tokyo into an illustration that offers his own playful perspective on the rich story and culture of the city. It adorns the bottle like a hidden object picture and shows famous city landmarks such as the Tokyo Tower and Uneo Park, traditional Japanese leisure activities, the giraffe-high stills of Glenmorangie and the lush Mizunara oaks. Many hidden things can be discovered, including several “Dr. Bills”.
The influence of maturation in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels is incredibly complex and unusual, so the Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo was rounded off with selected exBourbon and exSherry casks.
