Portrait: What makes the Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select special edition special

The distillery's namesake, Jack Daniel, was already producing his whiskey as an independent distiller at the age of 13.
He founded today's distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee in 1866, his greatest success brand - the Old No. 7 - he registered as a trademark in 1887.
The square bottle has been the distillery's trademark since 1890.

After Prohibition ended in the USA in 1933, some counties retained the alcohol ban, including the home of Jack Daniel's (Moore County).
Jack Daniel's nephew, Lem Motlow, managed the impossible: he obtained a distilling license for the distillery despite the alcohol ban - and so to this day you don't get a Jack Daniel's served after a tour of the distillery, but just a glass of the homemade lemonade “Lynchburg Lemonade”.

The fact that Jack Daniel's is so particularly drinkable is thanks to him the special type of filtration.
The so-called "Charcoal Mellowing process" is the reason - the whiskey is filtered through a layer of maple charcoal approximately three meters thick.
This makes it exceptionally mild and gives it a special aroma.

For the Single Barrel Select bottlings, as the name suggests, only individual barrels are bottled that are particularly outstanding in quality.
