Portrait: What makes the GlenAllachie 12 year old Moscatel Wood Finish special.

Studying the influence of casks on single malt whiskey is Billy Walker's life's work. The industry veteran is particularly dedicated to the phenomenon in the Wood Finish Series. The series consists ofinnovative bottlingswhich The GlenAllachie Master Blender perfects in puncheons, pipes and co. often from small producers from all over the world. His latest creation, The GlenAllachie 12 year old Moscatel Wood Finish, was bottled exclusively for the European market.
 
This wonderfully fruity whisky Initially matured in former bourbon barrels for over 8 years. In order to increase its complexity even further, it was then filled into selected exMoscatel barrels for a maturation period of around 42 months. Pre-filled with the extremely aromatic dessert wine from Portugal, these casks contribute floral aromas paired with a silky-soft mouthfeel. The result is a bronze-colored malt whisky with unmistakable notes of tart fruit and lush toffee.

Tasting Notes: This is what the GlenAllachie 12 year old Moscatel Wood Finish tastes like

  • Nose: Waves of orange blossom, heather honey and citrus, with notes of grapefruit, butterscotch and toffee
  • Palate: Hints of dark chocolate, grape must and plum jam, followed by notes of garden fruits, cinnamon and honeycomb
  • Finish: Ginger and butterscotch
