Portrait: What makes the Daftmill Winter Batch Release 2010/2023 special
Extremely little single malt with extremely high demand - the single farm estate whiskey from Daftmill in a nutshell. At Daftmill Farm in the Scottish Lowlands everything revolves around cows, potatoes, carrots and growing malting barley. Since 2006, however, the Cuthbert family has also been processing their own barley into single malt.
This matures for at least 10 years, after being aged in very small quantities of sometimes no more than 100 barrels per year is fired. And only in the low season (June and July as well as in winter), when there is no need to plant potatoes or sow barley.
The new Daftmill Winter Batch Release 2010/2023 is based on barley of the Publican variety harvested by John and Sandy on August 28th and 29th, 2009. Malted at Crisp Malt in Alloa in the summer of 2010, the farm distillery distilled their Winter Batch Release from it. 25 first-fill bourbon casks were filled in November and December 2010 to rest in 6,550 bottles this year.
Outturn: 6,550 bottles
